Your team was incredible and both Terenzo and myself are still talking about the race. I have so many great photos from the week. I know you have heard it many times, but seriously Fred, I have been to many races around the World, and you guys absolutely nailed an incredible event first time around. The entire experience from arrival to leaving, was first class.

The course is great and the people you have are exceptional.

Fred count me in for next years race. I will be back 100%.

There are simply not enough superlatives to describe what an outstanding event you all put on. Everybody was made to feel special; the atmosphere in CWC was a festival, the carbo loading a Peter Pan spectacle and the Awards Dinner (before I started celebrating too much!!) It was a rock concert

Described by many of us as the best race this year and in a long time to be held in Asia, you and your team and Gov. Lray should be very proud. It was an outstanding effort. Speaking with the pro’s I asked them how this compared to races held in the states. The response was - there is no comparison. Not even they had witnessed the level of spectator support and show that you put together. Some were moved to tears by the sight of the children along the bike course. It was so very special and something I will not forget and shall definitely be coming back next year…as will many others.

We would like to thank and congratulate you and the whole team for the very successful staging of the inaugural Ironman 70.3 Philippines! All of us who came all the way from Bacolod felt that it was worth all the travel and expense. [We did have some problems due to the late advisory regarding the cebu pacific flight bike case limitations. This is considering that we had to fly to Manila and then to Cam Sur] However, the event surpassed all our expectations and we really enjoyed the experience. In fact it was far better than some Ironman events we joined abroad. Be rest assured that we will be coming back next year and hopefully with more members!
Again, thank you and more power!

Thank you all so much for such a fantastic experience.
Ironman 70.3 Philippines was brilliant.
The support of the local population and all the volunteers was
overwhelming and made it a very memorable race.
I will certainly be encouraging others to do your event in 2010 and
hopefully will also be on the start line again.
Take a bow !

This is my personal blog. Im doing this before all the details get mixed up and before i get off this high.

Thank you to all the sponsors, marshals, security, volunteeres and a special shout out to Joe. You will know why in a bit.

I started off with a very conservative swim knowing that I would be one of those who would be running at least a 3 hour half marathon. It turns out I did enjoy myself too much in the water. Came out fresher than I have ever been in any race and was so happy to feel that way. 55:25 I was O.Pos 324.

I was able to hammer, but defenitely not as fast as the otheres out there but it felt like hammering to me, even at the start. I was averaging 30 kph through most of the race. my pre race target was 3:30 but was close to doing a 3:05. I even caught up and passed my friend Jodi Jacinto who exited the water 2 or 3 minutes ahead of me. At around 200m from the 75 km water station my tyre blew (flat #1). After changing my tube I used my co2 inflator and bang the tube blew (flat #2). Afraid of using up all my tubes I ran to the aid station carrying my bike, mountain bike style, and had the mechanic check my tyre. Sure enough the sidewall was split. Using a hammer gel packet as a patch Joe (the ironman chief mechanic and bike check dude) placed 100 psi of pressure on my last tube and told me to slow down and just get home. 500m passed the aid station the patch failed and the tube blew (flat #3). Again I sprinted back to the aid station, kids following and
asking for my bottles, bike and anything ane e verything I could give them. Sorry kids was too busy begging for a tube myself. On the way another rider stopped and gave me a spare tube since I had blown out all my sapres by then (whoever you are man, Thank You So Much You Saved My Race!!!). Joe patched the tyre with another gel wrapper and inflated my tyre with 50 psi and told me another flat would DNF my race. I was able to crawl back to transition from there. 3:50 lost 45 mins at least O.Pos 373. What A day!

I took off almost 12 noon. That was the hottest run I have ever done in my entire life!!! Thanks to Dicky Backman and Brian Ng for staying with me for most of the first loop. Even Dickys walking pace was almost too fast for me. Now I have to thank all the people of the area for showering us with water. If it was not for the teammates and free water showers I would have just sat down and stopped. Then it rained. The best thing to happen all that day. It was then and Tony Fernando’s screaming at me to push that forced me to go from a 10 min pace to around a 6. I dont know, my brain was fried by then. When I was Teddy Tong on the lake and I was maybe 500m behind. A 61 year old Thai based in singapore Mr. Gin Seng (hope I spelled his name right) ran with me and pushed me on. The marshal said 25 mins to go at the top of the lake. Now it was a race to just finish. Was able to pass a sunkist tri guy halfway down the lake and I never looked back from there.
3:00 for a 21k. I was finished!! I kissed my wife and son and went home!

This was by far the hardest ever athletic test I have ever done. Something I would never have been able to finish if it were not for my family, my friends, teammates, Joe and a total stranger who helped me when all else was lost.

It was because of all of You and so many others that I can scream to the world -

A FILIPINO CANCER SURVIVOR HAD FINISHED COBRA IRONMAN 70.3 IN 7:53:57!! Position 373 or 3rd fron the last but a finisher non the less.

Sorry about blabbing.

Wonderfully run event, probably the most fun (if that’s the right word…) I’ve had in a race I didn’t finish!

The support from the moment I got off the plane in Legazpi through to the accommodation at CWC and the food in the hospitality tents was simply superb. You made every one of us experience what life must be like for the pros! The support on the course was simply breathtaking - I’ve never seen so many people on a bike course! - and the logistical input from all concerned to get everyone and their baggage etc out of Cam Sur the following day was very impressive.

I’ve been to many events all over the world as part of my job as a sports journalist (two Olympic Games, three World Cups and much more besides) and I can say, without doubt, that this was organised on a par with any world-class event. In fact, it exceeded many events that have a much higher profile throughout the world. You guys get a definite five-star rating!

Now all you need to do is to get LRay to resurface the road on the bike course (and install AC on the run course for us pasty Irish guys!!!) and you’re going to have one hell of a race in the coming years…I just hope I can get enough time to train for next year so I can actually finish the damn thing!!

Thanks for everything guys, and in particular the amazing Pinoy hospitality. You all made it a weekend to be remembered!

Cheers

The level of service you provided from the check-in at Manila aiport,
before, during and after the race until the arrival back in Manila was

The location was well chosen and the local support along the bike and
What an atmosphere!

A special thank you also for making it possible for me to go on the
helicopter trip to Survivor Island. That was awesome!

You guys have raised the bar in Asia which is great for the sport in
the region and all the other events striving to get better.

Thank you once again for a great weekend!

Thank you kindly for your message. I just returned to the U.S. after spending a few additional days in beautiful Davao, Phillipines. I have recovered from the race, but not yet from the jet lag! My boyfriend and I had a most wonderful experience at Cam Sur and hope to participate again next year. Although it’s an inaugural year for this race, I must admit that your organization and the Cam Sur community responded like very experienced race organizers!! Other race organizers should actually follow your organization for tips. My friends and I bumped into Gov. LRay in the Manila airport and chatted with him. We shared our congratulations with him and plan to also write a formal letter expressing our gratitude and appreciation for such a great race experience.

Home to Hawaii and a small part of my heart is still missing the Philippines. The entire experience was so enriching in so many ways and I just wanted to thank you both for all your hard work in making such wonderful experience for all the athletes and their families. You created a race environment unlike any I have ever been part of. You made it possible for people of other coutries and cultures come together as friends and form a sort of “Philippines 70.3 family”. Truly it was a blessing all of us will treasure.

That said, I heard August 22 is the race date for next year… please put my name on the list, I want to be the first to sign up… and next year, I will not go so hard on the bike because I plan to break that tape sooner than later!!!

Sending you both hugs from Hawaii…
